This position is responsible for the planning and execution of Convention Center Technology Services activities. Supervising the day to day activities of the assigned area and assist with the coordination of other divisions and the Technology division to ensure that the technical requirements of the Minneapolis Convention Center and its clients are met and Services are provided in an efficient, effective, and timely manner. Upholding high standards of customer service, independent judgment and professionalism are required for this position.

Salary Range: $75,218 - $82,192 annually
Create production estimates within event information software including labor and equipment; have a working knowledge of contractual labor conditions to ensure proper estimating and smooth compliance from client and representatives; ensure that building policies and procedures are followed with safety as the number one goal.
Schedule and approve weekly work schedules for Production Technician and stagehands to accomplish client orders/installs in an efficient manner.
Review and approve payroll and audit labor entries on work orders for proper client billing; ensure that all department work orders are closed 3 days after the event.
Lead department meetings on a regular basis to ensure that important information is communicated timely. Attend preconvention meetings, Leadership meetings, Planning meetings, Event Review meetings and client site visit.
Actively works with each direct report to provide a performance management plan that ensures daily interaction, mentorship, and is completed each year with 100% of direct reports receiving a collaborative performance review and goal setting discussion.
Uphold the standards of service outlined in the MCC IMPACT statement
Manage City department labor contract to ensure adherence to the terms. Possess a working knowledge of IATSE union outside contracts that work inside MCC.
Work with COMET procurement system for requisitions. Identify capital needs and account requirements.
Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure that sustainable practices are being followed so as to fulfill the convention center goals regarding sustainability and efficiency.
Work with client professionals (e.g. production managers, tour managers, audio visual companies) to determine client needs and partner with client professionals to provide convention center services where possible.
Work with Technology Services Coordinator & Production Technicians to identify any department training for both full time and permit staff.
Develop a strong relationship with local production vendors so that they understand our business model and partner with us when advantageous to both parties; help client source local equipment as needed
Keep up to date with industry trends by attending trade show(s), continuing education training, and customer focus groups when available.
Oversee day-to-day operational policies and procedures and provide administrative supervision while planning, organizing, scheduling, assigning, monitoring, analyzing and correcting all work assignments of staff and other related activities.
Assist and participate in the interviewing, hiring, training, coaching and development of all technology services department subordinate employees and personnel.
Assist in the development of formalized training and education programs.
Attend and participate in weekly Event Review meetings. At the direction of management, participate in meetings necessary for conducting external business and conduct regularly scheduled staff meetings with all shift supervisors to share relevant information and gain feedback relating to methods to improve service.
At the direction of management, coordinate and act as a liaison between outside organizations, vendors, city departments, private firms and all event production support service contractors.
Seek out and keep abreast of new technological improvements/procedures, innovations and developments in the industry.
Assist in research for preparation of accurate bid specifications for departmental purchases and review/approve payroll, department purchases and client billing.
Assist in the preparation and review of departmental budget, including the verification of coding for all purchases.
Schedule both in-house technicians and over hire stagehands to deliver production requirements.
Facilitate department meetings, coordinate client meetings, site tours and provide recommendations for future production.
Actively works with each direct report to provide a performance management plan, performance review and goal setting.
Work within City Procurement System. Identify capital needs and industry trends.
Working Conditions: Stand/walk for long periods; lift/maneuver/move equipment, etc., of medium to heavy weight. Ability to adjust work days and work hours on short notice.
Experience: Two years supervisory or managerial experience in event and/or technology services of a public assembly facility or equivalent experience in areas such as audiovisual, sound, lighting, and/or video production.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered.
Desirable Qualification: Cultural competency - Ability to relate and work effectively with people from diverse cultural, economic and ethnic backgrounds.
